Angela Vurens Van Es, Director Community Impact and Analysis, Lotterywest
Western Australia has the only lottery in the nation, and one of the few in the world, where all the profits are returned directly back to the community. As the official State Government owned and operated lottery of Western Australia, Lotterywest has proudly supported the community for almost 90 years.
This has most recently included the delivery of the $159 million COVID-19 Relief Fund and a shift towards outcomes-based grant making. In the 2020/21 financial year, Lotterywest distributed $122.2m across 593 grants to 430 not-for-profit organisations and local government authorities. These grants seek to enable inclusive thriving communities, connected cultural experiences, protected sustainable ecosystems and a smart innovative society in WA. Angela’s team is responsible for maximising and understanding the impact of Lotterywest’s community grants.
Aden Date, Arts, Media and Social Impact Specialist
Aden’s career has gravitated around three main questions – what is knowable, what is good, and what is true? Aden holds a Graduate Certificate in Social Impact from UWA and has worked across a variety of sectors and institutions under the broad banner of social impact. He helped start the McCusker Centre for Citizenship at UWA, founded a social enterprise in Tanzania, and is the Director of a performing arts social enterprise.
Aden’s focus is on using data and outcomes measurement to start a conversation about social impact in the Arts & Cultural sector. He is interested in how the Arts raise the question of “measuring the immeasurable”, and how to combine both rationalist and artistic epistemologies as to how social change occurs.
Russ Wood, Co-Founder & Director, Latitude Network
Russ is a former Founding Director of SIMNA. Not being a technical specialist, Russ brings a very practical lens to the area of impact measurement – ‘if the least sophisticated of our social, health and welfare organisations can’t use measurement to improve performance, then we’re not going to make a real difference.’
Russ is a co-founder of a boutique consultancy that focuses on the emerging world of outcomes-based contracting, financing and funding including specialising in Social Impact Bonds. Russ has been a senior exec in the community services sector, a Ministerial Adviser at both State and Federal level and has an MBA from Melbourne Business School.
Our Facilitator is SIMNA Board Member Benjamin Jardine.
Our Sponsors
We say it every year. The SIMNA Awards would not be possible without the financial support of our incredible sponsors.
We are delighted to announce that our returning Platinum Sponsor for the 2021 SIMNA Awards is The Department of Social Services (DSS). We also welcome Lendlease, as Sponsor of this year’s Speaker Panel.
Thank you all!
