Aden is a sessional academic, artist, and consultant. He teaches Community Psychology and Design for Social Justice at Notre Dame University, runs a cooperatively owned improvised theatre company called Only the Human, and consults with art and cultural organisations on strategy and social impact.
Drawing on Foucault’s concept of the ‘episteme,’ he is drawn to social impact assessment as a way of expanding our culture’s understanding of what is worth knowing and talking about.
Within the field, he is interested in complexity-based and critical approaches, particularly post-colonial theory, that challenge our conception of what counts as material social impact. In practice, this work involves trialing new research methods and critically engaging with both the process and context of social impact assessment.
